Public Protection Unit

The Public Protection Unit (PPU) at Cumbria Constabulary HQ is a police led multi agency team that deals with some of the county's most serious offenders. It was formed in 2008 to enhance Inter-agency communication and Risk Management planning. As well as police officers the unit is staffed by civilian staff dedicated to dealing with domestic abuse cases and staff managing MAPPA referrals and meetings.

There are also team members dedicated to gathering intelligence and creating offender profiles.  Cumbria Probation has a Senior Probation Officer in the PPU with full access to Probation databases and ViSOR, the UK Violent and Sex Offender Register.
