Partnerships
The aims of the National Probation Service, to protect the public and to reduce re-offending, clearly relate to the aims of a number of other organisations in Cumbria who provide services to the public. In order for us to deliver the most efficient and effective service to local communities, it makes sense for us to work with a range of other groups and agencies, in the statutory, voluntary and private sectors. We fund a number of partnerships with other organisations which are designed to support the Regional Reducing Reoffending Action Plan.
The Regional Plan has eight action pathways:
Currently the Probation Area is supporting voluntary organisations to provide or develop services in relation to the Accommodation, Employment, Learning and Skills, Finance, Drugs and Alcohol pathways.
We work very closely with our local police and Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships so that together we may monitor and manage dangerous offenders in the community, as well as identify and target prolific offenders.
We contribute to the Youth Offending Service, Drug and Alcohol Action Team, as well as having partnerships with HMP Haverigg (see Role in Prisons).
Private and voluntary agencies work with offenders under our supervision to reduce the chances of re-offending through making interventions around a variety of interventions. Examples of partnership working include:
Providing accommodation services
Providing services and support for substance misusers
Skills for life training.
